Sagewood residents join in the spirit of giving

Each year we ask ourselves, “what is it we can do to help others? Is a handful of change dropped in Santa’s bucket in front of the grocery store enough, or can we do more?” The residents at Sagewood, a Life Care Services community just down the road from the Musical Instrument Museum, do more every day, and especially during the holidays.
From collecting toys for kids in need and walking in the Race for The Cure, to filling up the food bins for St. Mary’s Food Bank and providing scholarships for Sagewood employees and their families, the residents at Sagewood have a strong connection to the community in which they live. They give back because they know that by offering a location to collect toys, or drop food off for hungry families, they will positively impact those in need.

This year, Sagewood residents have again offered their halls for the collection of food and toys. The St. Mary’s food drive will take place Nov. 1 through 16. The public may drop non-perishable food items at the collection bins in the marketing office. Neighbors in the surrounding area may also help Sagewood make children’s lives a little brighter this year with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy for Marine Toys for Tots. The toy donations through Sagewood will benefit needy children right here in Phoenix. The public can drop toys in the marketing office starting late November.
Sagewood residents not only give to Phoenix and the surrounding communities, but they also give back to the employees at Sagewood through the Sagewood Scholarship Fund. As tuition costs continue to rise, the Sagewood Residents’ Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, has taken on the initiative to promote higher education for Sagewood employees and their families. Sagewood staff and their dependents can use the finances, donated by residents to the scholarship fund, to further their education. This year, the Scholarship Committee awarded $25,000 in scholarships to 16 applicants.

The residents at Sagewood do so much for the community because it is a part of their lives; it’s not just a lifestyle. They have set the example for generations to come and encourage you to help others, not only this holiday season, but every day of the year.
