Philanthropy During the Holidays

By Stephanie Kern
Philanthropy is one of Desert Ridge Parents’ Group favorite ways to support our community!  In addition to various annual philanthropic events throughout the year, during the Holidays, we “adopt” a local family to give presents and gift cards to!  This year we were overwhelmed with the generosity of our members.  We received so many donations that we adopted 3 families this year!!!  We were able to give each member of our families a new outfit, new pajamas, a filed stocking, and 2 surprise presents.  We also gave each family grocery and department store gift cards.  All of our “adopted” families were grateful and shocked when we delivered the gifts!  It warms our hearts to make a positive impact on our community in any way that we can!

In addition to our Philanthropy, we do so much more!  We support our members by offering support in several ways.  From our Playgroups, to our Parents’ Night Out, to our Book Club, there is something for every member of your family!  If you’d like to know more about our exceptional group, I encourage you to look up DRPG online at and follow us on Facebook at:

Fall Festival

By Laura McConnell
DRPG Hospitality Chairperson

The Desert Ridge Parents’ Group sure knows how to celebrate fall.  As the fall temperatures dropped they decieded to get outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather at Cashman Park for their annual Fall Festival, the biggest event of the year!

Members enjoyed train rides, bounce houses, an inflatable obstacle course, games, kettle corn, apple cider, and Burnt Biscuit BBQ!  What’s a fall festival without a pie eating contest?  Over 50 kids participated in a kids pie eating contest.  It was lots of fun seeing kids smashing their faces in gooey apple pies with whipped cream.  Lots of big messy smiles.
Everyone knows one of the best things about fall are all the amazing baked goods.  Pumpkins, apples, cinnamon, oh my!  The group asked members to bring their favorite fall treat for a bake sale.  All donations collected went to DRPG’s Holiday adopt a family.

The entire group had fun giving thanks and celebrating fall with good friends and neighbors!  Everyone is already looking forward to the 2015 Fall Festival.  For more information on how to become a part of our group please visit our website

Holiday Sip and Cycle

“They sprang to their bikes, gave their bike bells a whistle,
And away they all pedaled like the down of a thistle.
And I heard them exclaim as they biked out of sight
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good Night!

By Laura McConnell
DRPG Hospitality Chairperson

‘Twas a night of bike riding on all the Desert Ridge streets, a holiday ride lit up, so pretty, so sweet; The lights were all hung from the houses with care, in hopes that the Sip & Cycle crew would soon be there.

A group of friends, all members of the Desert Ridge Parents’ Group, got together for the second annual “Holiday Sip & Cycle.”  Each couple decorated their bikes with lights, wore their ugly holiday sweaters, and hit the streets to check out the neighborhood lights.  With speakers adorned to their bikes they rocked Christmas tunes to get them in the spirit and keep them golly as they cruised around Desert Ridge.

There was a contest for the best decorated bikes and the Griswold’s moose mug was up for grabs.  The group enjoyed a roaming dinner having different courses at each couples home along the way.  They followed a modified version of the DRCA’s holiday trolley tour map, making sure to see the homes entered in the lighting competition as well as the winners!  It was a fun and festive way to enjoy the holiday lights and cheer spread throughout the entire Desert Ridge community.
