Vestar has been a longtime supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale (BGCS) and its commitment to support learning, positive values, healthy habits and growth of children throughout the area.
When the Vestar Branch, located at 3975 E. Lockwood Drive in Phoenix, was in need of repairs late last year, the shopping center company took action to help maintain the personality and integrity of the branch that carries its name.
Last November, Vestar brought a group of employees to the BGCS Vestar Club to donate food boxes for families in need and painted art pieces to be displayed inside the branch. On the outside of the building, essential repairs were made to the stonework and the parking lot was resealed and repainted. To go along with the new, improved look, Vestar also painted the exterior of the building and cleaned up the landscaping, making it the perfect environment for the kids to spend their time before and after school.
“We are so thankful for the tremendous partner we have in Vestar,” said Dr. Lisa Hurst, Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. “Vestar and its employees show so much heart through their continued commitment to the repair, upkeep and beautification of our Club. We are excited to have them out again this coming fall.”
The BGCS Vestar Branch has carried the Vestar name for the last 10 years and sees more than 300 children walk through its doors per day during the school year and 400 kids a day during the summer. Ages range from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The branch is currently getting a refreshed teen center. The renovation includes an update to the interior with new flooring and fresh paint, with plans to install a gym for teen use.
Vestar, parent company of Desert Ridge Marketplace in the North Phoenix community, understands the importance of a home-away-from-home destination for kids in the Desert Ridge area. The company has engaged an interior designer to develop the new look of the Ellie & Michael Ziegler Teen Center as part of renovations currently taking place at the Club. The much anticipated refresh includes an update to the interior with new flooring and fresh paint.
“The kids at the Vestar Branch are the future leaders of North Phoenix, Scottsdale and beyond,” said Rebecca Smith, marketing director at Desert Ridge Marketplace. “Volunteerism is important to Vestar, and the valuable Boys & Clubs Club partnership allows us to see our company’s impact firsthand.”
It is Vestar’s mission to provide a safe, positive environment for the community, and will continue its partnership with BGCS in Q4 of 2017. Maintaining the physical appearance of the facility is just one of the ways the company helps. In kind donations and volunteerism are at the core of Vestar’s commitment to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale. ABOUT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREATER SCOTTSDALE
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale (BGCS) serves thousands of youth at nine Clubs located within the communities of Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Fountain Hills, Mesa, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Hualapai Nation.
Research shows that the more time youth spend at a Boys & Girls Club, the more likely they are to feel more connected to school and have greater post-secondary aspirations. The door to our kids’ futures is often crowded by temptation and misdirection making it difficult for them to reach their full potential.
Inside our doors, youth development professionals and mentors provide guidance, support and encouragement in an enriching and safe environment. Our outcome-based programming assures that success.
